The piece is 3 .5" in length and the same in height.....in perfect condition....as with many of their items there are no makers marks.....we date this piece as 1920's...hand painting Bisque Porcelain. Gustav Schafer and Guenther Vater founded the Schafer & Vater Porcelain Factory in Volkstedt Rudolstad, Thuringa, Germany in 1890. Their aim was to make high quality porcelain and by 1896 the business had sufficiently grown to purchase the List Porcelain Factory at Neuhaus. By 1910 the American firm of Sears Roebuck & Company had begun to import and distribute Schafer & Vater pottery into the United States. The aim of Schafer & Vater was to produce a wide range of hard paste porcelain and was to include luxury items, figurines, and dolls' heads. They also produced soft paste porcelain in bisque items and Majolica and Jasper ware were other produce lines. They produced many figural liquor bottles for distribution by pubs. In 1913 Paul Schafer had taken over from his father and, working alongside Gunther Vater, built up a successful workforce of around 200 people, using 3 kilns. They advertised the manufacture of porcelain dolls' heads. In 1918 the factory was destroyed by fire and they set up a new factory to resume production. The firm closed in 1962 and it is reported that in 1972 the East German government assumed full control of the vacant factory and their records and moulds were destroyed. Schafer & Vater were better known for their comical and figural items. They manufactured these in teapots, jugs, creamers, bottles, match strikers, and planters, with a back stamp impressed with a crown above an 'R' in a star. 'Made in Germany' was sometimes stamped in black. The firm used a light blue glaze applied directly to the porcelain. A hallmark of this pottery is the fine texture of the clay used in production. Mined locally, it was rich with kaolin and this resulted in a product with a velvety texture and very fine grain. Schafer and Vater's range was wide. The company was an authorized manufacturer of Rose O'Neill Kewpies. However, certain Schafer & Vater pieces can be found without any stamps or reference to their origin.

  • A Pair Of Blanc-de-Chine Kuanyins Circa 1910-1920
These are not quite Mirror Images...there is a slight difference. A magnificent pair in lovely condition...just a few frits to extremities but nothing of consequence. These are beautifully formed pieces with real charm to them. No other figure in the Chinese pantheon appears in a greater variety of images, of which there are said to be thousands of different incarnations or manifestations. Quan Yin is usually depicted as a barefoot, gracious woman dressed in beautiful, white flowing robes, with a white hood gracefully draped over the top of the head and carrying a small upturned vase of holy dew. (However, in the Lamaistic form, common in bronze from eighteenth-century China and Tibet, she is often entirely naked.) She stands tall and slender, a figure of infinite grace, her gently composed features conveying the sublime selflessness and compassion that have made her the favorite of all deities. This pair stand 5 1/4" in height.

The Cherub stands 6" high with the lamp being 14" in height....would benefit from a new shade....think the present one is probably a replacement dating to around 1940's-50's. Condition is excellent with no chips or faults that I can see. Not marked on base but expert advice confirms it as of German origin.

  • Royal Doulton FALSTAFF Dewars Whisky Flask - Kingsware Series
This is the Royal Doulton Kingsware Dewar's Whisky Flask depicting Sir John Falstaff ....it has an Original Dewar's Stopper,....the piece is 8" tall with a width of 6 1/2" and is in PERFECT CONDITION. This Kingsware Flask is Reputedly one of the Rarest Dewar's Whisky Flasks. The Flask has a flattened circular body with elongated handle. Not marked on the flask but the Doulton Number is Rd No. 508037 ...made from around early 1900s to 1939. The Falstaff Flask can occur with or without title, and sometimes with Dewar’s Scotch Whisky or Dewar’s Whisky on the reverse and the character can have either a Green or Brown hat. This flask is Titled FALSTAFF and has the Dewar's logo to base....also remnants of a foil label to back. Sir John Falstaff appears in Shakespeare’s Henry iv and the Merry Wives of Windsor – a fat, witty, god humoured Knight, loving jests, self-indulgent and over-addicted to sack. Royal Doulton Kingsware was developed by Charles Noke and produced between 1898 and 1939. No other factory in the world has been able to recreate the same lustrous finish. The rich, brown effects of the Kingsware glaze were achieved by painting the design in colored slip on the inside of the plaster mold, then the dark slip was added to the body. • SEVRES Lidded Serving Dish or Tureen With Amorial - 1766
A stunning old Serving Dish from SEVRES, one of the World's most highly regarded porcelain makers. This Lidded Serving Dish dates to 1766 according to the mark on the base. The Mark is pale blue, as it should be, and it has what I think is the letter M to centre which dates this as 1766....it is very difficult to get a good clear picture of the mark as it is so pale. The base dish has a diameter of 11 1/2 inches (29.5cm). The Amorial is of a Crowned Griffen standing on a Crown. Some tiny imperfections around rim but no real chips or cracks. A simple but rather lovely piece at a very realistic price.

  • Royal Doulton Kingsware 'Tony Weller' Whisky Flask
In Mint condition with original stopper this lovely old whisky flask designed by Noke dates to the 1930's and stands 10" tall to top of stopper. This example does not have the 'Beware of The Vidders' written at base as per all other examples I have seen. Whether this is due to a manufacture fault or was intentional I simply do not know but it does appear to be rare. VERY GOOD BUYING AT THIS PRICE.
