  • Japanese Silk Needlework
A stunning piece of needlework silk on silk depicting Three beautiful Cranes and foliage. In beautiful condition for age. This and the other piece we have listed came together with the Japanese porcelain pieces we have also listed....all kept in the same family since the early 1900's. The item measures 55 x 50 cm approx (22" x 20"). I'm advised that these were done as either cushion covers, or for framing as art pieces. Certainly when framed and hung they would be just beautiful. They have been folded and kept in a drawer for around 100 years so do need professional pressing to remove the fold marks. The Crane is considered to be a Holy Creature in Japanese culture and brings Good Fortune and Long Life.

  • LARGE Welsh 'SAMPLER' By Ellen Jane Clements 1835
A large Georgian Era 34" X 25 3/4" Needlework 'Sampler' dated as 1835 by Ellen Jane Clements, aged 13, of Ashton in WALES. The piece is in excellent condition for its age and demonstrates a wide variety of needle work skills. This Sampler was framed under glass when we first obtained it in Somerset, England, last year but the frame was in poor condition so we removed the piece for ease of shipping it back to New Zealand. William IV (William Henry; 21 August 1765 – 20 June 1837) was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and King of Hanover at the time young Ellen Jane worked on this lovely old item ......he was the third son of George III and the younger brother and successor to George IV. He was the last of the Georgian Kings and penultimate monarch of Britain's House of Hanover. Rare to find Georgian Samplers nowadays....a lovely and highly collectible piece of strong historic interest also.
