Fiji And The Fijians; And , Missionary Labours Among The Cannibals
This is the 1884 SEVENTH THOUSAND of this book by THOMAS WILLIAMS .... with INTRODUCTORY NOTICE By Miss.C.F. Gordon Cumming. EXTENDED WITH NOTICES AND EVENTS; Also.....NEW PREFACE AND INDEX. by JAMES CALVERT.....Edited by GEORGE STRINGER ROWE.Published in London by CHARLES.H. KELLY. The book is of 592 pages, 8vo or 7 3/8" x 5 1/4" in size. Gold stamped vignette on blue boards. Loose on spine but free of age spotting or browning....generally a very clean and tidy copy. What makes this particular copy of considerable interest is the 'paste-ins' by the previous owner The Rev. James Oliver Mann of the Wesleyan Chapel in Mawgan, Cornwall, and other postings overseas as noted on the Presentation Slip on the inside front cover. These cuttings from newspapers seem to date from around 1910 up to 1943...one is an exert from an 1870 paper. There is a great deal of notation and underlining in pencil throughout most of the book. A rare copy beautifully illustrated and highly informative reading. Probably should be in a Wesleyan Church Museum or in a Fijian museum.
