H.M. Dockyard Simon's Town (Capetown SA) - WW One Trench Art Ashtray

This cast alloy ashtray is a 'trench art' souvenir of H.M DOCKYARD SIMON'S TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA and depicts and old Submarine, cannon, and Crest to center of bowl. Dating of this piece is around the World War One era we believe. Condition is excellent. Diameter is 4 3/4". In 1795 Britain inherited two small Dutch East India Company dockyards in Cape Town and nearby Simon's Town, and opted to develop the latter as a naval base. The dockyard at Simon's Town is now in the custody of the SANDF.
